Thermally Modified Wood Flooring

Both thermally modified oak and ash wood flooring possess stunning aesthetic qualities that make them stand out. The thermal modification process enhances the natural grain patterns, lending a unique character and depth to the wood. The resulting warm, rich tones and varied hues create a visually captivating flooring option that adds charm and elegance to any room.

Exceptional Durability and Stability:
Thermally modified oak and ash wood flooring exhibit exceptional durability and stability, making them suitable for various environments. The thermal modification process involves subjecting the wood to high temperatures, altering its chemical composition. This results in increased resistance to moisture, insects, and decay. The modified wood becomes more dimensionally stable, minimizing the risk of warping or cupping over time.

Versatility and Compatibility:
Thermally modified oak and ash wood flooring offer remarkable versatility, complementing a wide range of interior design styles. Whether your space leans towards traditional, rustic, or contemporary aesthetics, these woods effortlessly adapt and enhance the overall ambiance. The ability of these woods to blend with different color schemes and design elements allows for endless possibilities in creating the desired look and feel in your home.

Sustainability and Environmental Friendliness:

Opting for thermally modified oak and ash wood flooring aligns with eco-conscious values. The thermal modification process utilizes heat instead of chemicals, reducing the need for preservatives or other treatments. This process also enhances the wood's natural resistance, minimizing the need for additional chemical treatments throughout its lifespan. Furthermore, oak and ash are both abundant and sustainable hardwood species, ensuring a responsible choice for the environment.

Longevity and Low Maintenance:
Thermally modified oak and ash wood flooring are known for their longevity and ease of maintenance. The durability of these woods translates into a long-lasting flooring solution that can withstand heavy foot traffic and daily wear. Routine maintenance involves simple cleaning with a mild wood floor cleaner and periodic reapplication of a protective finish to preserve the wood's natural beauty and shield it from potential damage.

How Thermally Modified Wood Flooring is made?

Thermal modification is a specialized process that involves subjecting the wood to high temperatures in a controlled environment. This process alters the wood's chemical composition, resulting in enhanced durability and stability. Here are the key steps involved in the thermal modification process:

  1. Wood Selection: High-quality oak and ash logs are carefully selected for the thermal modification process. These hardwood species are known for their strength, density, and attractive grain patterns.
  2. Conditioning: Before the thermal modification process begins, the wood is conditioned to reduce its moisture content. This step helps to achieve more uniform results and minimize the risk of warping or distortion during the heating phase.
  3. Heating Chamber: The conditioned wood is then placed in a specialized heating chamber. The chamber is sealed, and heat is gradually applied, typically reaching temperatures between 180°C (356°F) and 230°C (446°F). The exact temperature and duration of the heating process may vary depending on the desired outcome and the manufacturer's specifications.
  4. Thermal Modification: As the temperature rises within the chamber, several chemical changes occur within the wood. The heat causes the hemicellulose—a component responsible for the wood's susceptibility to moisture—to break down. This breakdown reduces the wood's ability to absorb and release moisture, resulting in improved dimensional stability and resistance to moisture-related issues such as warping, swelling, and decay.
  5. Cooling and Conditioning: Once the desired modification level is achieved, the heat is gradually reduced, and the wood is cooled within the chamber. This cooling process allows the wood to stabilize and adjust to its new properties. The conditioned and thermally modified wood is then ready for further processing and transformation into flooring planks.
  6. Milling and Finishing: The thermally modified wood is milled into flooring planks of desired dimensions. The planks undergo additional processes such as sanding, profiling, and finishing to create a smooth, uniform surface. Various finishes, including oils or lacquers, can be applied to enhance the wood's natural beauty and provide additional protection.
