White Ash Engineered Wide Plank Flooring with Bespoke Ash Stairs
Project
This project pairs white ash engineered wide plank flooring with bespoke white ash stair treads and risers clad over a metal frame. The pale, straight-grained ash runs through the gallery rooms and living spaces of a home designed around natural light, with large glass windows across the back of the house.

White ash wood flooring plays a big part in this interior’s narrative. Being surrounded by precious natural materials in the middle of nature evokes a sense of belonging and oneness. The use of natural light was very important to the design and is brilliantly executed with the installation of the large glass windows at the back of the house.

Gallery rooms are given optimal comfort and distinguished quality with exclusive white ash wood flooring.

White ash flooring and stairs, supplied and fitted across the UK
White ash is one of the palest European hardwoods, which is why it works so well in homes built around glazing and daylight: it bounces light deeper into the room and stays fresh-looking next to white walls and minimal joinery. A white oil or matt lacquer keeps the colour from yellowing, and an engineered construction gives the stability needed for wide planks over screed or underfloor heating.
Hoff Parquet supplies ash as wide planks, chevron and herringbone from FSC or PEFC certified timber made in the EU, and can produce matching treads, risers and nosings for steel or concrete stairs. We deliver across the UK, fit with our own team in Scotland, London and elsewhere, and samples can be sent out or seen at our Edinburgh showroom.

Questions about this project
Does white ash flooring turn yellow over time?
All timber changes with light. Ash finished with a white-pigmented oil or a UV-resistant matt lacquer holds its pale tone much better than an untreated or clear-oiled floor. Rugs moved occasionally and blinds in strong sun help it age evenly.
Can wooden treads be fitted to a metal stair frame?
Yes. Treads and risers are made to the frame's exact dimensions and fixed from below or bonded, depending on the frame. Using the same ash as the floor, ideally from the same batch, gives a consistent colour from floor to stair.
