Two shades of engineered ash in one office
For this office in Vilnius, Lithuania, we supplied engineered ash wood flooring in two shades from the same natural grade timber. The main office space was laid in White Ash, finished with a white oil and hardwax oil, and the adjoining area in Ash Natural, finished with a clear natural hardwax oil. Both floors use the same 220mm wide planks, so the change of colour marks out the two zones while the floor still reads as one.

The flooring
- Species and grade: European ash, natural grade – lively grain with small knots and natural colour variation.
- Construction: engineered, with a solid ash top layer on a stable plywood base.
- Size: 16mm thick, 220mm wide, in lengths from 1800 to 3000mm.
- Finishes: White Ash – white oil with hardwax oil; Ash Natural – clear natural hardwax oil.
The white oil softens ash's natural yellow tone into a pale, Scandinavian look that keeps the grain visible, while the clear hardwax oil keeps Ash Natural warm and honey-toned. Hardwax oil finishes are easy to refresh in busy areas, which suits an office floor.

Delivery straight from production
Because our production is close to Vilnius, the flooring was delivered directly from production to the site, without extra warehousing or long-distance transport. It is the same engineered ash we supply to homes and businesses across the UK.

Two-tone ash flooring for offices and open-plan spaces
Using two shades of the same timber is a simple way to zone an office or an open-plan home without changing the floor type. Because both floors are the same ash, thickness and plank size, they sit at exactly the same height and age in the same way, and the joint between them can be a neat straight line rather than a threshold strip. Pale White Ash keeps work areas bright and calm, while the warmer Ash Natural gives a meeting or reception area its own character.
We supply the same engineered ash in the UK, with samples of both shades available to order online or to see in our Edinburgh showroom. Hardwax oil finishes suit busy commercial floors because worn areas can be cleaned and refreshed locally, without sanding the whole floor. For UK offices and homes we can also survey the subfloor, prepare and level it, and install the floor with our own team.
Questions about this project
Can two different shades of wood flooring be used next to each other?
Yes. Using two finishes of the same species, as here, works best: the planks are the same height and size, so they meet flush in a straight line. The change of colour then marks out different areas, such as a work space and a meeting room, while the floor still looks like one design.
Is engineered ash flooring suitable for an office?
Yes. Ash is a hard, hard-wearing timber, and the engineered plywood base keeps wide planks stable in heated offices. A hardwax oil finish can be cleaned and refreshed locally in high-traffic areas, so the floor can be maintained without closing the whole office for sanding.
What is the difference between White Ash and Ash Natural?
Both are the same natural grade engineered ash. White Ash is finished with a white oil and hardwax oil, which gives a pale, Scandinavian look. Ash Natural has a clear natural hardwax oil that keeps the timber's warm, light honey colour.
