One of our most distinctive recent projects took place in the prestigious Braid Hills area of Edinburgh – a location renowned for its stunning views, traditional architecture, and elegant homes. This exclusive residential project involved the design, production, supply, and installation of a truly unique, handmade Versailles parquet floor for a private client seeking something both authentic and extraordinary.

A Location That Deserved Something Special
Nestled in the leafy south-western part of Edinburgh, Braid Hills Approach is home to some of the city's most desirable properties. With its elevated position overlooking the city skyline and the nearby Pentland Hills, this location demanded a flooring solution that could match the architectural quality and charm of its surroundings. Our client wanted a floor that would make a bold, elegant statement while feeling completely at home in a classic interior – and Versailles parquet was the perfect choice.

Designed and Handmade in Smoked Oak
For this project, we designed each Versailles panel from scratch, tailoring the proportions and pattern to the rooms and layout of the property. Every square and triangular element within the panels was individually made using smoked European oak, giving the floor a distinctive tone and texture. The smoking process naturally deepens the wood’s colour, enhancing its grain and delivering a rich, aged aesthetic that looks both sophisticated and timeless.

The result is a bespoke Versailles parquet floor that is full of character, with subtle variations in tone and texture that reflect the craftsmanship involved in every step of the process. No two panels are the same – and that’s exactly what makes this floor so special.
Precision Installation and On-Site DetailingThe subfloor was prepared using the existing chipboard base, which we levelled and readied for a full glue-down installation – a method that ensures maximum durability and acoustic performance.

To accommodate the new flooring and achieve a flawless finish, we:

• Removed all existing skirting boards, allowing the panels and border to sit perfectly flush against the wall.
• Trimmed internal doors and kitchen unit kickboards to accommodate the new floor height without compromising function or aesthetics.
• Installed a natural oak border around the perimeter of each room, creating a clean, refined frame for the Versailles panels and enhancing the sense of space.

This level of care and precision during the installation phase is key to the longevity and overall impact of the final floor.
The Final ResultThe finished Versailles parquet floor completely transformed the interiors of this Braid Hills home, adding warmth, grandeur, and a deep sense of timeless style. The natural variation in the smoked oak, combined with the intricate, symmetrical pattern of the panels, creates a visual centrepiece in every room – equally at home with traditional décor or more modern furnishings.
