American Walnut Versailles Parquet Flooring – Luxury Apartment in London
Project Overview
For a high-end residential apartment in London, we were commissioned to supply and install premium-grade Versailles design parquet panels. The client, initially choosing between Mansion Weave Parquet and Versailles parquet, was provided with detailed visualisations of both options. Ultimately, the timeless elegance of Versailles parquet was selected for this luxury project.
Preparation and Installation Process
The installation began with meticulous preparation of the subfloor, ensuring it was perfectly levelled through screeding. Once level, a Damp Proof Membrane (DPM) was applied to protect the flooring from potential moisture ingress. This crucial step ensures the longevity and stability of the wood.
For the Versailles parquet installation, the panels were carefully aligned and fitted to create a seamless, intricate pattern. Each panel required precision in placement to achieve the desired symmetrical look. Our team paid close attention to the joints, ensuring tight seams between each panel for a flawless finish.
Bespoke Elements
In addition to the parquet flooring, we produced bespoke American walnut skirting boards, custom-matched to the colour and finish of the Versailles parquet. This added a cohesive, luxurious touch, blending seamlessly with the flooring.

Versailles parquet in London apartments
London apartments range from Edwardian mansion blocks and converted townhouses to new-build concrete-frame schemes, and almost all leases say something about hard floors. Many require a stated impact-sound performance or an approved acoustic layer, plus written consent from the freeholder or managing agent before work starts. Checking this first decides the build-up under the parquet, and therefore the finished height at doors, thresholds and kitchen plinths.
Large 800mm Versailles panels bridge any dips, so a level screed and moisture protection, as here, are essential. As on this project, we can prepare visualisations to compare patterns before you commit, and post walnut and oak samples anywhere in London. Our own installation team travels from Edinburgh to carry out the subfloor work, fitting and bespoke details such as matching skirting boards.

Questions about this project
Do I need acoustic underlay for parquet in a London flat?
Often, yes. Many leases and building managers require hard floors in flats to meet an impact-sound standard, and some specify a tested acoustic mat. Check your lease and get written consent before ordering; we can then specify a bonded acoustic system compatible with Versailles panels.
How flat does the subfloor need to be for Versailles panels?
Very flat. Large 800mm panels will rock or open at joints over dips, so screeds should meet SR1 (within 3mm under a 2m straightedge) and be dry, below 65% relative humidity. In this apartment the floor was levelled with screed and a damp-proof membrane applied before fitting.
Should I choose Versailles or mansion weave parquet?
Versailles is a formal panel of interlaced diagonal and square elements, best in rooms where the grid can be centred. Mansion weave is a woven block pattern that feels more relaxed. This client compared visualisations of both before choosing Versailles.
