At Hoff Parquet, we recently completed a stunning private residential project in St Albans, UK, supplying and expertly installing our European ash engineered wood flooring. The highlight of this bespoke project was the installation of our impressive 300mm wide European white ash planks, including planks up to 6 metres in length, offering a dramatic sense of scale and continuity throughout the interior.
The project began with the client receiving a custom sample set to review finishes and wood characteristics. After careful consideration, our European ash engineered planks were selected and specified for the entire flooring scheme. The entire floor was professionally glued down to a level screed subfloor for maximum durability and a clean, seamless appearance.
One of the key architectural challenges of this installation was ensuring perfect alignment with the direction of exterior decking and exposed roof structure beams. Wide plank ash flooring in St Albans and Hertfordshire

Can 6m long engineered planks be used with underfloor heating?
Yes, provided they are engineered on a stable plywood base and fully glued to a dry, flat screed with a flexible adhesive. The heating should be commissioned and run before fitting, then kept to a maximum floor surface temperature of 27°C.
Which way should wide planks run?
Usually along the longest sightline or towards the main light source, but in modern homes it often makes more sense to follow strong architectural lines such as roof beams, glazing or external decking, as in this St Albans project, so inside and outside read as one.
