American Walnut: A Timeless Classic
Known for its rich and luxurious appearance, American Walnut has long been a favourite choice in upscale residential design. Its warm, chocolate-brown hues and exquisite grain patterns add depth and character to any space. As a symbol of refinement, American Walnut is the ideal choice for those who seek to create an enduring sense of luxury in their homes.
Basket Weave Design: A Touch of Artistry
Our American Walnut Basket Weave Design Parquet Panels take this classic wood to the next level with an intricate and artistic pattern. The basket weave design is a timeless motif that has been used in interior design for centuries. It not only adds visual interest but also provides a sense of depth and texture to your floors, turning them into exquisite works of art.

Basket weave walnut parquet panels across the UK
Basket weave is one of the oldest parquet patterns, and making it as pre-assembled panels rather than loose blocks keeps every square true across the whole room. Panels do need a flat, dry and rigid base: screeds tested below 65% relative humidity and flat to SR1, or timber floors overboarded with plywood. They are then fully bonded, which gives the solid, quiet feel expected of a parquet floor.
Walnut’s dark tone suits Georgian and Victorian drawing rooms, libraries and dining rooms, from Edinburgh’s New Town to London townhouses, especially when set off by a plain border. You can see walnut panel samples at our Morningside showroom in Edinburgh, or we can post samples anywhere in the UK. After a site survey, our own team prepares the subfloor, sets out the pattern on the room’s main axis and fits the panels and any border.

Questions about this project
What subfloor do basket weave parquet panels need?
A flat, dry and rigid one. Concrete or screed should be tested below 65% relative humidity and flat to SR1, which means no more than 3mm deviation under a 2m straightedge. Timber floors are overboarded with plywood. The panels are then fully bonded with a flexible parquet adhesive.
Can walnut basket weave panels go over underfloor heating?
Engineered panels on a plywood base are generally suitable for underfloor heating when fully bonded. The heating should be commissioned before fitting, temperatures raised gradually and the floor surface kept at or below 27°C to protect the timber.
Is basket weave the same as mansion weave parquet?
They are related but different. Basket weave alternates small groups of blocks at right angles to form a chequer of squares, while mansion weave uses blocks of different lengths in a looser woven layout. Both suit classic interiors, and samples help judge which scale fits the room.
