Chevron Pattern Wood Flooring, Engineered Oak Planks, and Chequer Pattern Parquet Flooring for a Classic Apartment in London
For this project, Hoff Parquet was proud to supply and install premium engineered oak flooring in a stunning classic-style apartment in London. The design included three distinctive patterns: chevron pattern parquet flooring, standard planks, and chequer pattern, all crafted in the same colour and finish “NR10”. This gently brushed and matt hard-wax oiled finish added elegance and cohesion to the high-ceilinged rooms, perfectly complementing the traditional doors, furniture, and exquisite wallpaper.
The Challenge
The project presented several complexities. Our team had to ensure a seamless transition between the chevron pattern flooring in the hallway and bedroom, the engineered oak planks in the dining and kitchen areas, and the striking chequer pattern in the guest room. These patterns were meticulously crafted to the same thickness of 16mm, maintaining uniformity across the spaces.
Additionally, the subfloor preparation was critical. The old flooring had to be carefully removed before installing a new wet underfloor heating system in the hallway, dining room, and bedrooms. Following the underfloor heating installation, self-levelling compound screeding was applied to create a perfectly flat surface for the engineered oak flooring.
Subfloor Preparation
Subfloor preparation is essential for achieving long-lasting, high-quality wood flooring installations. In this case, the wet underfloor heating system required careful installation and commissioning. Typically, underfloor heating must run for a minimum of 7 days before any flooring can be laid, ensuring the system is functioning correctly.
Once the heating system was tested, the screed was applied. Screeding is a process of creating a level, smooth base for flooring, and the drying period is crucial. For wet screeds, drying time is generally 1mm per day for the first 40mm of depth under optimal conditions. For depths over 40mm, the drying rate slows to 0.5mm per day. In our project, we ensured the screed was completely dry and ready for the next steps before proceeding.

Installation Process
For this classic apartment, we used the glue-down method, ideal for underfloor heating systems as it provides strong adhesion and allows for efficient heat transfer.
All the flooring installed was of select, clean grade oak with minimal variations and no knots, ensuring a flawless and refined appearance throughout.

- Chevron Pattern Wood Flooring: We began in the hallway, landing, and bedroom, installing the elegant chevron pattern. This design demands precision, and our fitters ensured perfect alignment for a clean and sophisticated look.
- Engineered Oak Planks: The dining and kitchen areas featured our engineered oak planks. These planks offered a timeless appeal, seamlessly connecting the spaces while maintaining the overall classic interior design.
- Chequer Pattern Parquet Flooring: In the guest room, the chequer pattern flooring became the highlight. This bold statement piece added a unique touch to the space while maintaining consistency with the other patterns through its colour and finish.
