Engineered Wood Flooring Installation Guidance

  1. Prepare the Subfloor: Ensure the subfloor is clean, level, and dry. Any unevenness or bumps should be smoothed out, and any loose or damaged boards should be replaced.
  2. Acclimate the Flooring: Allow the engineered plank wood flooring to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for at least 72 hours before installation.

Nail Down Method:
  • Lay the underlayment: Install the underlayment following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Start from the center: Starting from the center of the room, lay the first row of engineered wood boards perpendicular to the floor joists, with the tongue facing towards the center of the room. Use a flooring nailer to attach the boards to the subfloor.
  • Install the subsequent rows: Continue laying the boards in rows, staggering the seams and leaving a 1/2 inch gap at the edges of the room for expansion. Use a flooring nailer to attach the boards to the subfloor.
  • Cut the last row: Cut the last row of boards to fit, and install them using a flooring nailer.
  • Install the skirting boards: Once the flooring is installed, install the baseboards to cover the gaps between the flooring and the walls.
Glue Down Method:
  • Lay the underlayment: Install the underlayment following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Start from the center: Starting from the center of the room, lay the first row of boards perpendicular to the floor joists, with the tongue facing towards the center of the room. Apply flooring adhesive to the subfloor and the back of the boards, then press the boards into place.
  • Install the subsequent rows: Continue laying the boards in rows, staggering the seams and leaving a 1/2 inch gap at the edges of the room for expansion. Apply adhesive to the subfloor and the back of the boards, then press the boards into place.
  • Cut the last row: Cut the last row of boards to fit, and install them using adhesive.
  • Install the skirting boards: Once the flooring is installed, install the baseboards to cover the gaps between the flooring and the walls.
Floating Method:
  • Lay the underlayment: Install the underlayment following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Start from the center: Starting from the center of the room, lay the first row of boards perpendicular to the floor joists, with the tongue facing towards the center of the room. Use spacers to maintain a 1/2 inch gap between the boards and the walls.
  • Install the subsequent rows: Continue laying the boards in rows, staggering the seams and using the tongue and groove mechanism to connect the boards together. Use spacers to maintain a 1/2 inch gap at the edges of the room for expansion.
  • Cut the last row: Cut the last row of boards to fit, and install them using the tongue and groove mechanism.
  • Install the skirting boards: Once the flooring is installed, install the baseboards to cover the gaps between the flooring and the walls.

In conclusion, installing tongue and groove engineered plank wood flooring requires a certain amount of skill and experience to ensure a flawless finish. It is always best to consult a professional flooring installer or refer to the manufacturer's installation instructions to ensure you have the correct tools, underlayment, adhesive, and equipment for the job.
