- Versatility: Grey is a neutral colour that can complement a wide range of interior design styles, from minimalist to industrial to Scandinavian. It can also pair well with a variety of other colours, allowing for a lot of flexibility in decorating.
- Timelessness: Grey is a classic colour that has been popular in design for decades. It is a colour that won't go out of style, so your flooring will look fresh and modern for years to come.
- Contemporary Appeal: Grey parquet floors are often associated with contemporary or modern design aesthetics. The cool, muted tone creates a sleek and sophisticated look that can add a touch of elegance to any room.
- Easy to Maintain: Grey floors are great for hiding dirt and scratches, making them an excellent option for high-traffic areas. They are also relatively easy to clean, which can be a significant benefit for busy households.
- Reflective Properties: Grey floors can add brightness to a room because they reflect natural light. This can be particularly useful in rooms with limited access to natural light, such as basements or windowless spaces.
Grey herringbone parquet for Edinburgh apartments
Edinburgh has a lot of modern flats in places like the Quartermile, Leith waterfront and newer developments on the edges of the city, alongside traditional tenements. Many of these apartments have concrete slabs, generous glazing and white or pale walls, and a cool grey oak tones down strong daylight while keeping the warmth of real timber underfoot. Herringbone adds pattern without the visual weight of a dark floor.
Apartment floors come with practical rules: building factors and title deeds often require acoustic underlay under hard floors, and screeds must be tested for moisture before parquet is glued. We handle both as part of a free site survey and quote. You can compare Polar Night against our natural, white and smoked herringbone finishes at the Morningside showroom before choosing.

Questions about this project
Will a grey oiled oak floor turn yellow?
A standard clear finish can make oak look more yellow or amber with time. Polar Night is protected with a hardwax oil chosen to resist yellowing, so the grey tone stays cooler. Regular maintenance with a suitable wood soap and occasional re-oiling keeps the colour even.
Do Edinburgh flats need acoustic underlay under herringbone parquet?
Often yes. Title deeds, factors' rules or the building warrant for newer blocks may specify impact sound insulation for hard floors. We use an acoustic layer compatible with glued parquet so the herringbone stays firmly bonded while reducing noise to neighbours below.
