About the Sole Solid Oak Wall Lamp

Sole takes its name from the Italian word for sun, and the shape follows: a plain solid oak disc that sits against the wall and gives off a soft glow around its edge. It is handmade in Europe from solid oak and made to order, with a carefully finished surface that shows off the grain.

The lamp is only 8cm deep, so it works where a bulky fitting would not, such as in a hallway, on a landing, or beside a bed where you do not want a lamp taking up bedside table space. The two diameters change its role. The smaller one reads as a delicate accent, while the larger one becomes a feature in its own right above a sofa or a headboard.

It gives mood lighting rather than task lighting. A dimmer is available, so you can raise the level for tidying up and lower it again when the evening settles. The lamp can be wired into the electrics or supplied with a plug-in cable, which is handy in rented flats or period homes where chasing new cables into plaster is not an option. That makes it an easy addition to an Edinburgh tenement or a Victorian terrace.

Sole is also the name of a wider collection with a round dining table and side and coffee tables, each with an openwork base and under-moulded top, so you can build a room around the same sun-like theme.
