Kiko Solid Oak Bookcase

About the Kiko Solid Oak Bookcase

This is a bookcase reduced to its essentials: solid oak shelves hung on the wall, with gently rounded ends instead of square cuts. Because nothing touches the floor, the wall stays visible beneath and the whole arrangement looks light, even when it is full of books.

Each shelf is 2cm thick and 28cm deep, which is enough for paperbacks, hardbacks, framed prints and the odd plant. You pick the width and the number of shelves, and the spaces between them are set at 30cm. If you need different gaps or different shelf sizes, they can be made on request, which helps when you own a few oversized art books.

Wall mounting makes sense in many British homes. In a tenement flat with high ceilings, a tall stack of shelves can climb a chimney-breast alcove or fill the wall beside a bed. In a smaller modern flat, a shorter run above a desk or sofa saves the floor space that a freestanding unit would take. The look is calm enough for a living room, bedroom, hallway or home office.

The oak is handmade in Europe and finished with natural oils and waxes, plus a hydrophobic coating that resists water and stains. It arrives for self-assembly and fixing to the wall, so check your wall type and use fixings suited to it.

The rounded edges are a signature of the Kiko range, so the bookcase sits comfortably with the Kiko Solid Oak TV Cabinet or the Kiko Solid Oak Bedside Cabinet if you want a matched look across rooms.
