About the Rosto Solid Oak Bedside Cabinet

The trick with this cabinet is in its base. The body is cut in so that it seems to hover above a low frame, giving a shadow line that makes a compact piece look lighter than it is. That detail is typical of the Rosto range, which prefers a single clean idea to lots of decoration.

Handmade in Europe from solid oak, the cabinet measures 43 cm wide, 40 cm deep and 43 cm high, with the base frame accounting for 16 cm of that height. Its one drawer is made from plywood and fitted with push-to-open runners, so it glides out quietly with a light press and needs no handle. It is deep enough for a paperback, spectacles and a charging cable, which is about all most people want within reach of the pillow. The top is oiled and waxed, then coated to repel water and stains; as with any natural finish, expect to refresh it periodically.

The calm outline suits Scandinavian and Japanese-inspired rooms as well as quieter modern schemes. In a Georgian or Victorian bedroom it adds a restrained, contemporary note without fighting the period details, and in a modern flat it takes up very little space.

If you like the look, the Rosto Solid Oak Chest of Drawers makes a handsome partner on another wall, and the Rosto Solid Oak Desk continues the theme in a home office.
